I define myself as a creative generalist with many interests, always eager to learn, and a great need for variation. Typical qualities of creative generalists, which I also recognize in myself, are:

Quickly understanding how something works
Generalists have the gift of quickly seeing how specific systems and processes work. They don’t need much explanation and quickly see connections. That way, generalists usually don’t need a lot of break-in time and are established soon, ready for action.

Seeing connections
Because they have many interests, generalists are more likely to make connections between things that apparently have nothing to do with each other. This leads to creative solutions that others do not think of because they are too focused on one particular aspect. A generalist can thus bring a new wind to a company by looking at things from a different perspective.

Eager to learn
Creative generalists have a constant hunger for new knowledge. As a result, they can easily process a lot of information and distinguish main issues from side issues.

Embracing change
Once generalists know how something works, they often lose interest. Then they start looking for something new to sink their teeth into. The flip side of this, however, is that generalists are not afraid of change. On the contrary, change breaks the daily pattern and that is what generalists find so pleasant.
